Interaction with nature

In order to create a balance between population and nature, the new law for Galapagos Islands is trying to be the instrument to build a new order where wild life and human society have equal rights. 200 people were involved in the revision of the law on June 24 of this year. Everybody understands the importance of the natural and special ecosystem where we live. However, different groups with particular interests feel that the new law is against their human rights and needs and that the rights of nature are stronger than their rights.

To create a balance is a difficult task and to recuperate the damage from years of exploitation is hardest, if not impossible. Wildlife is being threatened to it's limit and many people don´t understand this because the rules and the laws don´t connect nature and society, and I think this is the real problem.

How is it possible to understand what is happening with the environment or how is it possible to love our paradise if we don´t have contact with it? A small percent of permanent residents have seen a cormorant face to face, a small percent have seen an active volcano, etc. and yet we live here in the islands. Why is it not possible for us to be in contact with nature, or to have a real experience with nature?

We only have pictures, videos, rules, laws, penalties and sanctions and if we can´t create a sustainable balance, it could mean our extinction, too.
